Weld Inspection Supervisor -Madison, AL
SWJ Technologie specializes in providing engineering, planning, and project management services across various industries. We are currently seeking skilled professionals as a Weld Inspection Supervisor to perform and oversee daily scheduled destructive weld inspections and document findings, for a client in the automotive industry specializing in vehicle manufacturing. This is a Contractor/Short Term Temporary, and recurring role based in Madison, AL that requires onsite presence. PURPOSE: 
  • Schedule work shifts, ensure attendance of team members, and mentoring team members.
  • Tear down vehicle body parts to access weld spots.
  • Remove the spot welds by inserting a chisel or similar tool between steel plates.
  • Tearing off the area around the nugget.
  • Measure nugget diameter and document it.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • To perform scheduled destructive weld inspection in accordance with specified frequencies.
  • Supervise team members and if needed perform destruct and inspect marked welds.
    • Tear down vehicle body parts to access weld spots.
    • Remove spot welds by inserting a chisel or similar tool between steel plates.
    • Tearing off the area around the nugget.
    • Measure nugget diameter and document it.
  • Record measured results on paper and transfer into computer file.
  • Review and validate test reports before submission to relevant departments.
  • Maintain open communication and proper feedback information to the respective personnel.
  • Maintain performance of all equipment assigned to the area.
  • Responsible for attaining all weld destruct samples.
  • Perform assigned tasks in a safe manner.
  • Safety protocols and proper use of protective gear
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Experience in spot weld destructive inspection on automotive body parts using a chisel.
  • Managing a weld destruct laboratory preferred.
  • Associate degree or weld certification or higher.
  • Supervisory role or management experience leading a team.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • A working knowledge both written and verbal of English and Mathematics.
  • Good computer skills using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience of SPC charting and interpreting
  • Comprehensive knowledge of various measuring equipment and tools
  • Must be physically capable of performing teardown duties.
  • Must be proficient in the operation of all designated tools and equipment.
  • Problem solving skills capability to troubleshoot welding defects and suggest improvements.
  • Precision and Attention to detail and ability to detect flaws and inconsistency in welds.
  • Must be physically capable of performing teardown duties.
  • Must be proficient in the operation of all designated tools and equipment:
    • Plasma cutter
    • Air hammer with Chisel
    • Manual tools like hammer and crowbar
    • Measuring calipers
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting to 25 lbs.
    • Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.

    • Schedule: Part time, temporary and as required for shift work
